FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
Libby Landry brought self-directed and inclusive learning to Midland, Texas in 2015 when she founded West Texas Homeschool Co-op, which became Open Skies Learning Community LLC in 2019.
After the birth of her daughter and prior to coming to Midland, Libby was a key staff member at Village Home Education Resource Center in Beaverton, Oregon. Village Home, which is prominently featured in the 2015 documentary “Class Dismissed,” provided her working experience in the alternative education environment that she brought with her to West Texas.
Before becoming a mom, Libby’s career was in marketing and sales, business and revenue management in the travel industry. Her 20 year career included management and director level positions with Carnival Cruise Lines, InterContinental Hotels, Hilton, Holiday Inn, and others. The marriage of this experience with her passion for revolutionizing the typical homeschool education experience has proved to be on point with the success of West Texas Homeschool Co-op.
Libby's eclectic education pursuits show the success that is possible by being a self directed learner. After leaving high school she decided to pursue certification in Travel & Tourism (1990) to help her gain employment with companies that would allow her the opportunity to move and travel as desired. Later, she attended Marilyn Hickey Bible College through correspondence (1994/96) when correspondence classes were done by cassette tapes and pounds of photocopies through the mail, and she served in various ministry roles during those years. Her continued desire to help others prompted her to pursue certification in several modalities of Ayurveda at The Ayurvedic Institute (2018) with Dr. Vasant Lad who is credited with bringing Ayurveda to the West. With this knowledge she has led meditation & pranayama classes, individual well-being counseling and more. Libby has been an avid student of Kabbalah for a number of years and started a study group and library while living in Beaverton, Oregon. In addition to directing West Texas Homeschool Co-op, Libby offers her services as a homeschool counselor, helping families along the various points on their journey. Her current memberships include the Alliance for Self-Directed Education, the Alternative Education Resource Organization, and she has served on the Garden Committee at Sibley Nature Center since 2016. She is the foreman of a ranch north of Midland where she resides with her husband Tom and their daughter Avigail. Libby enjoys watching movies, cooking and spending time outside with her animals.
