MUSEUM OF THE SOUTHWEST FACILITATORS
Annelorre Robertson is the director of Fredda Turner Durham Children’s Museum, as well as the lead children’s art and history educator at the Museum of the Southwest. She studied Art History, Texas History, Painting, Sculpture, Jewelry, Drawing and Ceramics at 3 different universities- McMurry University, Abilene Christian University and the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas where she earned her BFA in Studio Arts. Annelorre has over 20 years of experience in art and history education in museums and universities. Beyond being the director of the Fredda Turner Durham Children’s Museum, she serves as the Secretary for the Midland Downtown Farmers Market Board of Directors, volunteers at Recording Library of West Texas and many other local nonprofit organizations. She also owns her own ceramics studio, Artisan’s Artifacts, where she focuses on creating functional Pottery. When she is not working with the Midland community, Annelorre enjoys cooking, spending time with her husband of 23 years and their four Blue Heelers.
Melissa Rowland has over 10 years’ experience in visual art education in grades K-12. She holds a Bachelor of Art and Master of the Arts in Teaching from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Mrs. Rowland obtained Principal Certification from Texas Woman's University and completed doctoral work in Art Education at the University of North Texas. Her dissertation is titled Teaching Art Educators to Engage in Action Research to Address Teacher-Identified Issues in the Classroom. Mrs. Rowland has a love and passion for art and education that comes across in her work with learners of all ages.
Valerie Rodriguez is the Director of the Marian West and William Blanton Blakemore Planetarium and has over 7 years of experience in science education. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources from The University of Georgia, and a Master of Science degree in Curriculum Implementation and Design from The University of Texas in Arlington, Texas. Mrs. Rodriguez obtained Teacher Certification from iTeach Texas and held a combined position in teaching technology and as head of the IT Department at her position prior to coming to work for the Museum.
Mrs. Rodriguez has technology and teaching experience in non-profit and public education settings as well as informal education settings. Alongside being a classroom teacher, she has also worked for many community partners across Midland county, serving as the Bookmobile Manager and Virtual Librarian for the Midland County Public Libraries, served as the Education Program Coordinator for Sibley Nature Center and organized programs and events at not only the nature center and libraries but in schools, community organizations, and held numerous roles in her previous positions.
Mrs. Rodriguez is driven and motivated by a love for science education and technology and enjoys collaborating with the community to engage in lifelong learning and to inspire learning through play and exploration.
When she is not working, she enjoys everything spooky and Halloween, singing in the Midland Symphony & Chorale, watching her favorite scary movies, reading sci-fi and mystery books and working on furniture restoration projects at home with her husband, and cat, Ichabod Crane, and her two dogs Robzie and Wednesday.
SIBLEY NATURE CENTER FACILITATORS
I am the Museum Scientist and Naturalist for Sibley Nature Center. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and two Master's Degrees in Museum Science and Zoology. I've had a side career as a professional artist and scientific illustrator with a clientele that has included National Geographic, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Royal Society of London, and numerous researchers from many countries. I also worked for 17 years in vertebrate paleontology, participating in projects in West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Antarctica. My main interests are insects and other invertebrates, birds, flowering plants, and paleontology.
Irene Perry is a Biology Lecturer at University of Texas Permian Basin. Her background is in ecology. She principally teaches and coordinates introductory biology lectures and labs. She loves to share the wonder of life. She helps students to recognize and understand concepts they already have observed. She hopes that students will appreciate new phenomena in themselves and the living world around them. Irene Perry has a BA in Biology (minors: Chemistry & Spanish) and MS in Plant Physiology from Texas A&M University.
OPEN SKIES MEMBER FACILITATORS
Christi Brabec studied English Literature & Creative Writing in college. She has a great love of classic literature & of words. She writes poetry in her spare time.
Sandra Carrasco grew up in West Texas is very well acquainted with dust devils, mesquites, and tumbleweeds. She is happily married and has three children. She has been with WTHS Co-op since 2018. She is passionate about cultivating a love for learning in her children and hopes to transmit the same passion to other children and adolescents.
I am 14 years old. This is my first year in home school. Although I have done charter school for 4 years and public school for 5 years. I want to teach high school when I graduate, home school my kids, then go to college to teach.
I'm Tyler Day and I love to play cards. I would like to share this with others. Nothing beats a good opponent or game. This will be my second semester at Open Skies. I'm 16 years old and have lived in Texas for five years.
Janine Deckard, DTM is the past area 63 governor for 2011, currently serving as Vice President of Education for Odessa Toastmasters Club #7072. Janine served as Area Director and is currently holding the office of Vice President of Public Relations. She's currently writing a book and plans to do speaking engagements once it's published. She's excited to share her love of Toastmasters with the next generation.
She has also studied many languages. Her mother spoke Spanish and Russian in the home. She was an ESL student, then studied Hebrew for 10 years and has been working with French since 2013. Her eldest is learning Japanese and her 13-year-old is learning Spanish. Learning languages is an integral part of her home. Let's get started with your journey!
She is a homeschool graduate, her eldest recently graduated from homeschool, and she homeschools her daughter and son.
Meagan and her daughter Evie (6yo) are new to Texas and to the homeschooling world, but they have found many benefits to experiencing both! Meagan is a fierce defender of childhood and always strives to find playful ways to make learning fun and natural. Meagan and Evie are nature lovers and enjoy learning and playing out in wild spaces as much as possible.
Hi! I'm Molly! I have 4 kids, and we’ve been homeschooling for 2.5 years. I attended Louisiana State University, where I studied Music. Before I decided to stay home with my kids, I worked in the restaurant industry, retail customer service and sales. I currently own my own photography business, www.luckyhorseshoephotgraphy.com. My interests include having fun, chasing kids, spending time outdoors, Barre3, reading.....I could go on and on!!
I am a homeschooling mom of three that loves reading, crafting, and spending time with my family. I prefer hands on learning over worksheets and believe learning is a collaborative effort.
Chelsea Green has spent much of her adult life teaching in both traditional and nontraditional classrooms. Currently, she enjoys being a stay-at-home mom and home/world educator to her two children. Her passions include travel, play and reading.
Hi! I am the momma of two rambunctious kiddos. I was an elementary teacher for five years before having children. I decided to stay home with them, and we sort off "fell into" homeschooling. We love reading books and learning together.
I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Theatre, specializing in acting and directing. I have a husband and three kids. I greatly enjoy reading, eating, and laughing, in no particular order.
Mariel is a native of California who was raised in West Texas. Mariel is passionate about encouraging growth. She is introducing young learners to Spanish with the hopes of inspiring lifelong interest in different languages.
Grace, a graduate from Colorado Tech University, is a stay at home mom to six kids-- one boy and five girls. She began home-schooling in 2012 when her oldest started first grade. She and her family moved to West Texas in 2016. Grace and her husband, Justin, love to travel and take every opportunity to expose their children to new experiences. She enjoys photography, nature, and cake decorating in her "spare time".
Rachel is a mom to three amazing girls (Gianna 6, Lucy 4, and Baby Grace) and is married to her high school sweetheart. In her previous life, she taught music and college prep courses, but is now truly living her best (and craziest) life as a homeschool mom and small business owner. Rachel loves reading, camping, working out, and sitting on her back porch watching the little monsters (aka children) she helped create.
Jo Lynn Siebenhor
I am a 4th year homeschool mom and before that I taught in public school as a substitute teacher for a year and taught two years of pre-kindergarten. I love watching kids discover a love of learning instead of just being taught at.
Erin is a former classroom teacher and has been homeschooling for 7 years. Her family is new to Midland but have been active in co-ops in their two previous locations. Her interests include history, literature, reading, knitting, & crochet.
